This past weekend was "post fall review recovery weekend." The recovery was channeled through shopping and crafts - what else is there really? Earlier this fall, I found a few great remnants at an antique and fabric store in New Hope, Pennsylvania. They had bins of beautiful, affordable pieces, but I successfully limited my purchase. Remnants and samples are wonderful starting points for creating simple pillow projects. Check the clearance racks at your local fabric store. Often you will find samples of expensive fabrics that are nice cut and ready to sew.
For this project, I picked up a 20" x 20" pillow insert. The remnant was large enough that I could simply fold it over and sew up two of the three unfinished edges. After securing the pillow in place, I folded each side of the unfinished pouch edges over and pinned them accordingly. The pillow has a great finished look to it, because there are buttons sewed to both sides as the closures. This pillow has no front or back, but I have made others with two different samples to create varied looks.
Throw pillows can bring great colors and textures to your living room. And they will bring all the more excitement if you try mixing and matching those textures.
I am more than impatient when it comes to sewing projects, but this is one that I can handle and is perfect for any beginner.
